Synopsis
Everyone thinks; it is our nature to do so. But much of our thinking, left to itself, is biased, distorted, partial, uninformed, or down-right prejudiced. Yet the quality of our life and that the quality of work we produce, make or build depends precisely on the quality of our thought. Poor thinking is costly, both in money and the quality of life. Excellence in thought, however, must be systematically cultivated.
Critical thinking is, in short, self-directed, self-disciplined, self-monitored, and self-corrective thinking. It presupposes assent to rigorous standards of excellence and mindful command of their use. It entails effective communication and problem solving abilities. Innovation comes along with critical and creative thinking. In other words:
- Critical Thinking is not just thinking, but thinking which entails self-improvement involving thinking about thinking.
- This improvement comes from skill in using standard by which ones appropriately assess thinking. To put it briefly, it is a self-improvement (in thinking) through standards (that assess thinking).
Seminar Objectives
- To develop an intellectual perspective in viewing issues and problems.
- To guide the participants on how to apply critical thinking to identify problem situation through analysis of the problem and to apply creative and innovative solution to improve the quality of ideas, work and services.
- To guide the participants on how to manage their knowledge, expertise and experience and to be aware about their thinking so that they can evaluate their work to seek improvement in both thinking and work.
- To train the participant to improve not only their thinking but also in thinking about thinking in the process of decision making and problem solving.
